Conditioning as an Athlete

Conditioning as an Athlete Being physically fit when being an athlete at any level, but especially at a high one is detrimental to the athlete’s success. Physical conditioning plays a key role in allowing athletes to enhance their performance, become durable, and more importantly the total well-being of the athlete. There are various things that athletes can and do to help them become the best variation of themselves, physically. These activities can include strength training, working on flexibility, cardiovascular conditioning, and exercises to prevent injuries. My hope for this blog is to examine the benefits of physical conditioning more and depth and why it is detrimental to the athlete’s success, development, and injury prevention.   When athletes choose to be disciplined and partake in physical conditioning honestly, they have an opportunity to reap the benefits that they work for. What do I mean when I say, “partake in physical condition honestly”, well simply put the...

Coach & Athletes at High Levels

Coach & Athletes at High Levels   I am a big believer that the environment that the person is in has a great influence on their success or failure. Now I’m not saying you’re screwed if you are not in a supportive atmosphere then you’re just never going to succeed at anything you do. Ultimately, it comes down to the individual, but it can be a great advantage if they are somewhere where they feel supported and cared for. This can be true for a lot of things in life such as academics, chasing your dreams, playing sports, etc. However, in this blog I mainly want to discuss how this holds true for coaching, especially at a high level. When you think about coaching or a coach, who do you think of first? Is it a person who made you fall in love with your sport? Someone who made you feel supported and who believed in you? Someone who made you hate your sport? It is always amazing to me how one person who is placed to lead a group to win games can actually be so influential on someone’...

Olympic athletes and training

Olympians What is one thing you can instantly think of when you think about something that brings the country together? To me, and I would hope many others would have the same response, would say the Olympics. Every four years when I was growing up it would be one of my favorite events that would occur. It would bring together all my family, some who weren’t even interested in sports, and together would watch. Watching the best of the best compete against each other but also feeling the patriotism when seeing our country place, or especially take-home gold is a feeling I can’t quite describe. I was always so impressed watching the athletes perform, and I would just watch them in awe. Seeing their power, speed, and skill these Olympians display the pinnacle pf athletic achievement. Being an Olympian, you must possess many characteristics such as tenacity, persistence, commitment, and dedication In this blog I am hoping to describe the physically, psychological, and emotional challe...

Mental Training Methods

7 Mental Training Tools When it comes to being an athlete everyone knows how important it is that you are physically at your best whether that means strength wise or endurance wise in order to succeed. However, being mentally strong is the other half of the beast that athletes must accomplish, in order to be great. just like you do in order to become physically your best, you must do for your mental as well, meaning you must train it. Untapped potential can be unlocked, and focus, resilience, and general well-being can be improved with the help of mental training approaches. In this blog I am hoping to teach you more about these mental training techniques by diving into them and explaining how they can help athlete reach their full potential. However, before I do this I wanted to first discuss an overview of the techniques that come with mental training and enhance variables such as mental toughness, resilience, cognitiv...

Leadership in sport

Leadership in Sport Many when they think of leadership, they think of it as being a role that is played by one individual. For sports they typically believe that the leader of the time is either the coach because they are the ones who oversees the team, or they believe that is the best player on the team. However, that is not always the case. In this blog I am hoping to examine and discuss the key principles of leadership in sport, the types of leadership, looking at coach lead teams versus player led teams, and hope to give examples as well as share my own experiences with leadership in sport. when thinking of just the word leadership and what that means, what comes to mind? Some may say inspiration, motivation, empowerment for individuals and their teams. However, leadership is all of that and more. It encapsulates various qualities such as integrity, resilience, communication, and vision. All of these variables are important when it comes to the struggles that will occur withi...

Intrinsic Motivation

"Why"      In my previous blog I have discussed what it means to be extrinsically motivated, and as well as how this motivation can be beneficial for individuals. In this blog I will be addressing the other type of motivation, how  it's  beneficial, and which do I believe is a better source type of motivator. According to Verywell Mind (2022) intrinsic motivation is, " the motivation to engage in a behavior because of the inherent satisfaction of the activity rather than the desire for a reward or specific outcome. According to "Introduction to Psychology: Gateways to Mind and Behavior with Concept Maps," intrinsic motivation occurs when we act without any obvious external rewards: "We simply enjoy an activity or see it as an opportunity to explore, learn, and actualize our potentials...The three main elements of intrinsic motivation are autonomy, purpose, and mastery. People are intrinsically motivated when they can act independently, feel t...
